FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Association Management Group (AMG) Selects Claudia Mansfield Sutton As Top Executive TO Lead New Clients Student Youth Travel Association (SYTA) and SYTA Youth Foundation

Claudia Mansfield Sutton, M.Ed., CAEMcLEAN, Va., March 9, 2009 — Washington, D.C.’s largest association management company, Association Management Group (AMG), announced the selection of Claudia Mansfield Sutton, M.Ed., CAE, to manage two new AMG clients, the Student Youth Travel Association (SYTA) and the SYTA Youth Foundation.  Sutton’s extensive background in education combined with her association experience made her the ideal candidate for the top executive position.  AMG solidified the partnership with SYTA volunteer leaders just after the first of the year and immediately began the transition from the organization’s headquarters in Michigan to AMG’s office in McLean.

“From our initial meeting with the members of the SYTA board of directors and SYTA Youth Foundation, we knew that the two organizations would be a great match for AMG,” says J. Bruce Wardle, CAE, president and CEO of AMG.  “Their growth goals, both membership and revenue targets, clearly indicate the need for some fresh ideas, solid execution, and shared vision for the future from their management company and staff.  AMG, with Claudia Mansfield Sutton in the lead, is prepared to deliver against the organization’s objectives and exceed their expectations for service.  I think we have a great chemistry and we just want to do great work for them.”

While her official start date is April 1st, Sutton already has been reviewing the SYTA strategic plan and working with the AMG human resources department to round out her work team.  “My top priority is talking to the board members and making sure that we thoroughly understand the strategic vision for both organizations; then, we’ll begin to implement the vision and hire staff to help manage the implementation.”

Sutton is nationally recognized for her dedication to and support of public education and Wardle says her breadth of knowledge, experience and exposure will provide SYTA and the Foundation the visibility and awareness the board members are seeking.  Her career as a teacher; a gifted education program administrator; a lobbyist; and associate executive director for a national education association, as well as a marketing executive for three instructional technology companies and an electronic and print publishing company will contribute to moving the organization forward.

“I have experience growing organizations,” Sutton says.  “I’ve worked for small companies and worked with a dedicated team of professionals to grow them to mid-sized ($100 mill +) businesses.  My extensive experience in marketing and communications will position me well to help SYTA get the message out about the great things these organizations do for the youth of our nation.  The long-term relationships I’ve built with policy-makers, influencers and education professionals will help SYTA and the SYTA Youth Foundation accomplish the goals of the strategic plan. Success will be measured against the strategic goals; and, by the end of the year, I expect we will have made significant progress toward increasing membership and generating additional revenue.”

AMG’s newest employee is active in the association community and the educational arena.  Currently, Sutton is a member of the USA Today Education Advisory Board, Phi Delta Kappa International, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the American Association of School Administrators, the American Society for Association Executives, and the Navy League of the United States.  She also serves on the National Advisory Panel for PBS TeacherLine.

“Claudia is a wonderful addition to the AMG team and we are ready to put her skills to work on these two great organizations,” Wardle says.  “Her poise and professionalism, combined with her knowledge and skills assure us that our new clients will be managed with confidence and inspired to new heights.”
